Urban sprawl is destroying Volusia County. It wrecks our ecosystems, drives up our taxes, worsens our traffic, and causes dangerous flooding in our homes and businesses. Let's face it — it's costing all of us money, in skyrocketing insurance costs and in the taxes it takes to supplement these huge projects.
It's time for a smarter approach. I'll fight to slow reckless growth by enforcing a rural boundary, strengthening stormwater rules, and ending the misuse of mitigation credits in our county.
Unchecked development doesn't make us money — it costs us money. We charge impact fees on new developments, but they're rarely enough to cover the roads, utilities, schools, and police and fire services that sprawl demands. I believe growth must always pay for itself.
Slow the Growth isn't anti-economy — it's pro-community, pro-conservation, and focused on a better future for all who call Volusia home. Smarter, slower growth, coupled with a diverse economy, creates jobs and opportunity without sacrificing our homes and quality of life — and it will save you money.
